THE BRIEF
Following our project delivering the 10.1 sound system to Real World Studios last year for the final mix of this film, we were subsequently commissioned to design and install a tailored sound system for a 5-screen presentation of the work at the Victoria Miro gallery in London. The exhibition format required the film to be presented across five synchronised screens, transforming the cinematic work into an immersive gallery installation.
DELIVERY
To support this format, we designed a discrete 5.1 surround sound system tailored to the acoustics and layout of the gallery space. The aim was to create a sense of spatial depth and movement within the room, allowing the sound design to extend beyond the individual screens and immerse visitors within the installation. Careful consideration was given to loudspeaker positioning, coverage, and system calibration to ensure that the audio image remained coherent across the viewing area while still retaining directional cues that supported the visual narrative unfolding across the five screens.
RESULT
By using a 5.1 surround configuration, we were able to maintain a strong sense of localisation and ambience, creating a sound field that enhanced the visual composition and reinforced the immersive nature of the installation. The final installation allowed the work to transition successfully from a traditional cinema format into a gallery context, preserving the artistic intent of the filmmakers while providing audiences with a new spatial experience of the piece.
